Just the name alone makes me shiver.
I mean, who in the world pays a large sum of money for something so unpleasant looking? Chinese, and us tonight with a couple of friends.
Hairy crabs get the name from owning long and wet, grotesque black hair all over their little body. Their bodies are strong with very fast legs, which allow them to attack other underwater species in cruel ways and get away with it. Kind of like school bullies, I'd like to think of them as.
So what do Chinese find gastronomically pleasant in them? Eggs and sperms. During the autumn months between August, all the way to November, are the times when gooey, yellowish, running crab eggs and (fucking) sperms are filled in their bellies. I'm okay with roes, but not sperms. When cooked, these translucent yellow sperms are solidified to a ge'lee like texture. Sticky and chewy, fishy and salty all in one bite size. Kind of like a very sexual version of ge'lee terrine. In a disgusting way.
What else can you ask for? I guess, sure, I'd pay high price for "sperms" too...NOT!

I don't think anyone has ever told me that those were sperms... I will never be able to look at them the same again...
i quite like them though in moderation...
