We are lucky that the Summer is arriving slightly later than usual this year. It gives me a bit more time to prepare and call for one last "cool weather" gathering at home.
I'm now letting myself sink back deep into those years before I moved to One Park Ave. When I still had the old English lane house home, I had always wanted to do an unusual Sunday brunch gathering, one that is very different but familiar. Something that wakes you up in the most gentle way. Coffee cupping brunch.
It's not just wines are worth doing tasting for. Anything fragrant and flavorful, anything that takes your palette to another level. Anything dynamic. And anything that you can prepare other nibbles to go with.
I am imagining a coffee cupping brunch on a lazy, breezy, rainy Sunday morning. I want to see my friends in their camel color ugg booths, warm and cozy in scarves, having absolutely no makeup, hair pulled back, glasses, and very comfy pajama pants. And it will be just coffee, us, Sunday morning newspapers of different sorts, goat cheese, confiture, honey glazed buns, warm milk, dried fruits, and long chats about random things.
And then I think we will choose a film to watch. It doesn't need to be anything too up to date. After all, movies are only better when they are slightly outdated. I think we will re-watch Stranger Than Fiction.
And maybe think about how our lives are like coffee mug stains.
